Unreal Projection Mapping

For this project, I designed a custom projector blueprint in Unreal Engine, incorporating tailored controls to enable video playback with specific requirements that the default projection system couldn’t meet. The standard Unreal Engine projector lacks the ability to simultaneously render color and play videos. To address this, I engineered a solution utilizing three monochrome projectors—each dedicated to projecting the primary colors of red, green, and blue—which combine to produce a full-color final image.

 

Additionally, I implemented functionality to support image conversion across various aspect ratios, ensuring compatibility and flexibility for diverse content inputs. The accompanying art installation, featuring interactive balls, was developed as a bespoke component using the new Motion Graphics plugin. This allowed for the integration of simple yet effective mechanics, enhancing the overall experience of the installation.

In addition to the initial setup, we developed several alternative scenarios for the same room, each tailored to different purposes and aesthetics. These variations included distinct furniture arrangements and design elements to accommodate diverse use cases—such as transforming the space into a vibrant party environment or a relaxed chill-out area. Each scenario was carefully crafted to enhance the room’s versatility while maintaining its core functionality and visual appeal.
